Springwood Community Quilt Show April 26-28 2019

Springwood Community Quilt Show is a biennial show held during the last weekend of April at Springwood Highschool. Our show is run by volunteers and showcases work by many talented local and internationally known quilters. This year our show will feature the works of Marg Sampson George a well known and loved Blue Mountains Quilter. We also encourage all members to participate as this is one of Australia's finest non-judged shows where you can find a wide range of quilts from beginner to professional making it a truly inspirational show! If you would like to enter a quilt (Blue Mountains and surrounding areas only) please click on the link below where you can find information on our show and the terms and conditions.
The Springwood Community Quilt Show has, over it's lifetime, raised funds for a number of worthy local charities including Springwood High, the RFS and we are happy to announce that moneys raised will go to Wimlah womens refuge in order to support programs and services for families effected by domestic violence.
Show Report From the 2019 Springwood Community Quilt Show
Friday 26th April- Springwood Quilt Show 2019 is off to a Flying Start!
Thank you to all who have visited and volunteered today. It was quite a busy day for us and we are expecting even more tomorrow as our show grows and expands. The Viewers Choice quilt was won by Gerri Johns for her applique quilt "Aunty Green's Coverlet'. This is one of our largest quilts on display and was hand sewn and hand quilted. Marg Sampson George, our Featured Quilter, had many come to see her Beautiful quilts on display on our stage too. It was also lovely to see the range of different stores with their beautiful wares, from fabric and patterns to vintage doilies and journal covers. There was truly something for everyone! The Cafe was a hive of activity and we had many visitors from outside the area coming to visit and have lunch or tea and scones in the sunshine. Thank you to all those who were able to volunteer and we hope you all had a busy yet fun Day 1! We are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at the show!
Saturday 27th April- The Quilt Show Buzz is about our Viewers Choice!
At the show today there was a lot of discussion and admiration for Gerri Johns' quilt Aunty Green's Coverlet our Friday Viewers Choice. Our white glove volunteers enjoyed showing viewers the hand quilting and love that went into the quilt and there were many ooh's and ahhs. Thoughts turned to who would be the viewers choice for Saturday and the winning entrant was Wendy Cooper for her quilt Ellie Elephant. Ellie Elephant is made using foundation paper piecing and was designed by Violet Craft. Congratulations Wendy! Outside in the sunshine was a popular place to be while enjoying some cafe delights while stall holders indoors were able to cater to fabric lovers from near and far. Blue Mountains Quilters also welcomed visitors from the Southern Highlands, Eastwood Fairholme and Camden Quilters to name a few! Thank you to all who attended and volunteered at our show today!
Sunday 28th April- Three days of fun comes to an end! See you in 2021!
To start off our final viewers choice for Sunday was the amazing quilt by Lyn Jones called Garden Wreaths. This quilt uses traupunto, applique and tiny stippling to make a quilt of many different wreaths. Congratulations on a deserved win for our final Viewers Choice of 2019. The show was a hype of activity once again and we we had a number of prizes to draw including our Raffle. First Prize was the blue and white quilt "Bird Seed" designed by Tula Pink and made by members of Blue Mountains Quilters. Second prize was a floor lamp and third prize in our raffle was a light tablet kindly sponsored by Linen and Threads. Our Prize winners were-

We would also like to thank all our Featured Quilter Marg Sampson George. Her creativity, kindness and generosity in sharing her time and her knowledge was the icing on the cake! We are very lucky to have so many talented quilters in our region and it was an absolute pleasure to showcase Marg's beautiful work during the show.
A big thank you also to our stall holders who included in no particular order, Sew Can I, Down Patchwork Lane, Patchwork Fundamentals, Chop Chop Sew, Hatched and Patched, The Stitching Post, Post Office Patchwork, Kellies Heavenly Patchwork, Cherry Pie Designs, Picklemouse Corner and also Cottage Quilt Works. Thank you for bringing your wares to the many fans of fabric we had visiting!!
Finally we would not have a show without our volunteers entrants and the Springwood Quilt Show Committee. Many hands make light work and though many of us were quite tired by the end of it all we all had much to smile about! Thank you for all having a part in making 2019 an excellent show! We look forward to seeing you all again in 2021!
Until then keep on stitching!!
